The exhibition “Icons of Albania – Treasures of the National Museum of Medieval Art of Korçë” has opened in the French city of Chambéry, marking one of the most significant events of Albanian cultural diplomacy on the international stage.
Announcing the event, Culture Minister Blendi Gonxhja said that French audiences will have the opportunity to explore an exceptional collection from the National Museum of Medieval Art from June 13 to November 13, 2026.
The exhibition features more than 45 carefully selected icons that showcase Albania’s rich artistic, historical, and spiritual heritage. Through these masterpieces, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the country’s centuries-old cultural traditions.
Furthermore, the collection includes works by some of Albania’s most celebrated icon painters, including Onufri, the Zografi Brothers, and Master Konstantin.
According to Gonxhja, these remarkable works present a unique cultural legacy that firmly places Albania on Europe’s cultural map. At the same time, they strengthen the role of culture as one of the country’s most powerful ambassadors abroad.
The exhibition not only highlights Albania’s artistic achievements but also promotes its cultural identity to international audiences, further enhancing the country’s visibility and reputation across Europe.
