Albania has won election to the UNESCO Intergovernmental Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage.
Ferit Hoxha announced the news and described the decision as recognition of Albania’s active contribution within UNESCO.
Hoxha said the election recognizes Albania’s long-standing commitment to protecting, promoting, and passing on its rich cultural heritage to future generations.
Furthermore, he highlighted several Albanian traditions that UNESCO has already included on its Intangible Cultural Heritage List. These include Albanian Iso-Polyphony, the traditional crafting and use of the Xhubleta, K’cimi of Tropoja, and Transhumance.
In addition, Hoxha thanked all UNESCO member states for their trust and support.
He also said that Albania looks forward to working closely with international partners to strengthen the safeguarding of intangible cultural heritage. According to Hoxha, cultural heritage serves as a source of identity, diversity, dialogue, and sustainable development.
Finally, he reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to making a constructive contribution to the committee’s work in the years ahead.
