Velipoja opens tourism season with reduced beach equipment fees, public spaces expanded

TIRANA, June 18 – Velipoja opens the summer tourist season. The report comes from the Albanian news agency (ATSH). Marseda Qefalia reports from Velipoja. The municipality introduces reduced tariffs for umbrellas and sunbeds in public beach areas.

At the same time, Velipoja stands as the northernmost beach in Albania. It welcomes visitors along the Adriatic coastline. The area includes more than 14 kilometres of sandy shoreline. It combines sea, river delta, islands, hills, forest, lagoon, and fields.

Meanwhile, the municipality improves coastal management. It expands public beach areas this year. Tourist numbers increase during the season. As a result, local authorities expect higher flows than last year.

In addition, visitors speak to ATSH about the changes. A visitor from Mitrovica says prices remain affordable. Another visitor reports stable safety conditions. He also compares costs favourably with Kosovo. A visitor from Gjakova says she returns every year. She highlights clean beaches and infrastructure.

Later, Bekim Mema serves as Director General for Sustainable Economic Development in Shkodër Municipality. He says 30–35% of Velipoja beach remains public and free of charge.

At the same time, he says the municipality offers sunbeds and umbrellas at reduced prices. He sets the price at 400 lekë in municipal areas. He sets the price at 300 lekë in the Rrjoll area.

However, he says private operators must provide lifeguards. They must also provide emergency infrastructure.

Meanwhile, he says the municipality sets fixed waste collection schedules. He calls for cooperation from operators and visitors. Finally, he says Velipoja can host between 100,000 and 120,000 tourists at peak season. He expects further growth this year.
