Pogradec Expands Public Beach Areas for Summer Visitors

The Municipality of Pogradec rejected reports that authorities had reduced public beach areas in favor of private businesses.

Instead, municipal officials stated that they have increased public beach space over the past four years and continue to prioritize access for residents and tourists.

According to the municipality, authorities have designated five public beach zones along the sandy shoreline between Hotel Enkelana and the public bathing area. Moreover, officials have clearly marked these areas in the official beach management plan.

The municipality reported that public beaches cover 92.5 meters of the 185-meter shoreline segment, while private operators use 82.5 meters. In addition, authorities have reserved 10 meters for pedal boats. Therefore, public beach space exceeds private beach space in one of the area’s most popular tourist zones.

Furthermore, municipal authorities continue to assist businesses with permit applications while protecting public access to the shoreline.

Officials also highlighted the availability of additional public beaches near the area known as Konti. Meanwhile, Uçkave Beach remains entirely public, and visitors can freely access large sections of the shoreline stretching toward Drilon.

In recent years, Pogradec has introduced free beach umbrellas in public areas, improved facilities for people with disabilities, and upgraded infrastructure for visitors.

As a result, the municipality says it has successfully increased public beach access and created better conditions for the thousands of tourists who choose Pogradec each summer.
