President Bajram Begaj paid an official visit to Kyrgyzstan on Wednesday, where he met with President Sadyr Zhaparov to discuss ways to strengthen bilateral relations and expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
During the meeting, President Begaj expressed Albania’s commitment to deepening dialogue and building a more dynamic partnership based on mutual respect and shared interests. The two leaders agreed to accelerate procedures for finalizing agreements currently under negotiation and to enhance cooperation in several key sectors.
Furthermore, Begaj stressed that stronger ties between the two countries depend on greater people-to-people contacts. He suggested establishing a direct air route between Tirana and Bishkek to encourage travel, tourism and cultural exchange.
The visit also produced a Joint Declaration signed by the two presidents, providing fresh momentum for the development of relations between Albania and Kyrgyzstan.
In addition, both leaders voiced support for continued cooperation within international organizations. Begaj congratulated Kyrgyzstan on its election as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the term beginning on January 1, 2027. He expressed confidence that the country would successfully promote the values and principles of the United Nations.
Meanwhile, President Begaj attended and addressed the International Issyk-Kul Forum, founded in 1986 by Kyrgyz writer and philosopher Chingiz Aitmatov. He praised Aitmatov’s efforts to create a platform for intellectual dialogue between East and West and emphasized the vital role of intellectual exchange in fostering understanding, peace and a shared vision for the future.
Overall, the visit highlighted both countries’ determination to strengthen diplomatic ties and explore new opportunities for cooperation.
