Citizen Protest in Tirana: Police Initiate Criminal Proceedings Against Nine Individuals

The Tirana Police have launched criminal proceedings against nine individuals who, according to authorities, remained on the “Dëshmorët e Kombit” Boulevard after the protest held on Saturday evening had officially ended.

According to the official statement, after the demonstration concluded at around 10:00 p.m., the protesters continued to occupy the public space, allegedly obstructing vehicle traffic and disturbing public order. Police claim that they occupied part of the boulevard by placing metal chairs and other objects in the area.

Authorities stated that despite repeated requests from police officers to clear the space and comply with legal provisions, the individuals under investigation refused to leave.

As part of the investigation, criminal proceedings have been initiated against citizens identified by the initials Sh. G., 32, A. G., 56, A. B., 25, V. K., 28, G. K., 30, A. K., 43, E. S., 36, A. K., 34, and R. Sh., 22.

Police said efforts are ongoing to identify other individuals who may have committed unlawful acts during the gathering.

The case files will be forwarded to the Prosecutor’s Office at the Court of First Instance of General Jurisdiction in Tirana for the alleged criminal offenses of “Obstruction of Transportation Traffic,” “Disturbance of Public Order,” and “Organizing and Participating in Illegal Gatherings.”
