The Albanian national football team remains the strongest symbol of identity and pride for fans across the country. This conclusion comes from the “UEFA Grow Market Research” report, conducted by UEFA in cooperation with Nielsen.
The report shows that interest in the national “A” team has increased over the past decade. It rose from 61% in 2016 to 66% in 2026. Moreover, awareness of other national teams has also grown during the same period.
In addition, the study highlights that Albania’s goal of qualifying for the World Cup and hosting the UEFA U-21 European Championship has boosted public interest. These developments have strengthened the visibility of Albanian football.
Furthermore, the national team holds the most positive perception among all national teams. It receives an average rating of 7.8 out of 10. As a result, nine in ten Albanians express interest in the team.
At the same time, more than half of the respondents say they attend matches or watch games regularly. They follow the team regardless of the opponent.
The report also notes that fans most often associate the national team with “emotion” and “pride.” In addition, 89% of respondents believe the team unites football fans in Albania. Meanwhile, 84% feel emotionally connected to it.
Moreover, 80% say they support the team no matter who it plays against. This shows a strong and consistent fan culture.
Similarly, the women’s national team is seen as entertaining and inspiring. Youth national teams are also rated positively, as competitive and engaging.
In addition, 64% of respondents view youth teams as positive role models for children. For the women’s team, this figure reaches 49%.
Finally, the report concludes that national teams remain one of the most valuable assets of Albanian football. They continue to generate interest, emotion, and a strong sense of belonging among the public.
