Prime Minister Edi Rama announced that the castle welcomed its 100,000th visitor in 2026. This achievement highlights the strong rise in foreign tourist arrivals across the country.
Moreover, Gjirokastër Castle remains one of the most visited historical landmarks in Albania. It attracts both local and international tour groups due to its historical and architectural value.
In addition, the castle stands on a hill about 370 meters above sea level and dominates the city’s skyline. It also serves as a key symbol of Gjirokastër, known as the “stone city.”
Finally, Gjirokastër, a UNESCO World Heritage site, continues to strengthen its position as one of the most popular cultural destinations in southern Albania.
