Balla to Young Albanians in North Macedonia: The Albanian Language Is Not Negotiable

Socialist Party parliamentary group leader Taulant Balla met with young Albanians from North Macedonia and stressed the importance of protecting Albanian language rights.

He stated that Albanians in North Macedonia are a state-forming nation, not an ethnic minority. Therefore, the right to education and the use of the Albanian language everywhere is an obligation and cannot be negotiated.

Balla also warned against divisions within the Albanian community. He said that some groups, allegedly encouraged by unfriendly actors, are promoting anti-American and antisemitic attitudes. Consequently, he emphasized that Albanians’ relationship with the United States must remain strong.

Furthermore, Balla described the implementation of the Ohrid Agreement as essential for North Macedonia’s future and its path toward European Union membership. He added that any attempt to limit the use of Albanian in institutions, schools, universities, or exams would undermine the country’s European aspirations.

During the discussion, Balla also addressed reactions to the Zvërnec development project. He noted that flamingos had returned to the area after the government introduced a hunting moratorium. As a result, wildlife populations recovered after years of decline.

Finally, Balla underlined the strategic importance of Albania’s ties with the United States, describing them as irreplaceable for both the country’s history and future.
