TIRANA, June 25 – The Port of Durrës marked the International Day of the Seafarer by praising maritime professionals for their role in safe and efficient sea transport. It described maritime transport as one of the main pillars of international trade.

The International Maritime Organization marks the day every year. For 2026, it chose the theme “Carrying world trade. Carrying the risks.”

According to the Port Authority of Durrës, this year’s theme places seafarers at the center. It highlights both their vital role and the sacrifices tied to the profession. Their responsibilities include safe navigation and the protection of life at sea. Meanwhile, their work also helps preserve the stability of global supply chains.

The port also stressed that professionalism and technical competence remain essential in the sector. In addition, it pointed to the importance of respecting international standards. In that context, it said seafarers remain crucial to the safe operation of maritime transport and to the continuity of the global economy.

On the occasion of the day, the Port of Durrës expressed gratitude to all seafarers. It praised their dedication, skills and sense of responsibility. As a result, it said their work keeps global trade routes functioning and supports the development of the maritime and port sector.
