Albania’s Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha visited Nicosia, Cyprus, where he held a series of high-level meetings focused on EU integration and bilateral cooperation.
First, Hoxha met with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides, reaffirming both countries’ commitment to strengthening cooperation and advancing Albania’s European agenda.
In addition, he praised Cyprus for its successful EU Council Presidency. He stated that the leadership demonstrated strong support for EU enlargement and Albania’s accession process.
Furthermore, Hoxha also held talks with Cypriot Foreign Minister Constantinos Kombos. The discussions focused on continued support for Albania’s EU path and progress on key evaluation standards, including the IBAR report.
Meanwhile, both sides agreed to deepen cooperation in trade, tourism, education, and investment. As a result, they aim to create more tangible benefits for both economies.
Moreover, Hoxha highlighted plans for a direct air connection between Nicosia and Tirana. Consequently, this is expected to boost tourism and strengthen people-to-people contacts.
In addition, during his visit, he reiterated Albania’s position on Kosovo’s recognition. He emphasized that broader recognition contributes to regional stability and European security.
Finally, Hoxha also met the Speaker of the Cypriot Parliament, focusing on strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation and democratic governance.
