€65 Million Allocated to Strengthen Local Government and Urban Transport in Albania

Minister of State for Local Government Ervin Demo has announced that the Albanian government has allocated €65 million to strengthen local authorities and improve public services.

Speaking after a Council of Ministers meeting, Demo said the funding, approved through a normative act, aims to boost municipal capacity and enhance infrastructure services across the country.

He explained that €35 million will go toward improving basic infrastructure in local territories. Meanwhile, €30 million will support two main development programs.

One program will establish a logistics fleet in every region, which will serve municipalities in maintaining agricultural and urban infrastructure. Demo said the fleet will include specialized vehicles designed for different types of interventions in the field.

In addition, the package introduces a new approach to urban transport reform. Pilot municipalities will join a cooperation model in 2026 together with the Albanian Development Fund.

The new system will introduce modern electric buses aimed at improving service quality, increasing urban living standards, and reducing transport costs for citizens.
