Gonxhja: New Apollonia Management Plan Strengthens Protection of Archaeological Park Boundaries

Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja presented the new management plan for the Apollonia Archaeological Park on social media.

First, he said the government declares the site an “Immovable Cultural Property” and strengthens the protection of its boundaries in line with state geospatial standards.

Next, he said the plan defines clear criteria, procedures, and institutional responsibilities for conserving, restoring, and administering the park. He also said the plan integrates cultural heritage protection with sustainable territorial development.

In addition, he said authorities organize the park into zones with different protection levels based on archaeological value and research results. Furthermore, he said the updated framework strengthens legal protection for one of Albania’s most important ancient sites.

He added that the plan ensures experts preserve, study, and develop Apollonia as a key cultural and tourism destination.

Finally, he said the State Authority for Geospatial Information publishes the updated map on the national geoportal, while the State Cadastre Agency registers the decision under current legislation.
