Hoxha: Albania Begins Preparations to Host Next NATO Summit in Tirana

Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha said Albania has begun preparations to host the next NATO Summit in Tirana, which could take place in 2027. Speaking to Top Channel during the NATO Summit in Ankara, Hoxha described the event as an important milestone for both the Alliance and Albania.

Furthermore, he said Albania attended the summit with a clear commitment to increasing defense spending.

“This is part of NATO’s new approach to strengthening defense, with all member states expected to invest up to 5% of GDP in defense by 2030,” Hoxha said.

He added that the goal is to strengthen protection against Russian threats and other hybrid security challenges. Meanwhile, Hoxha said Albania earned the opportunity to host the summit through the work of its institutions.

“It is good news and a major responsibility. It is also an opportunity to demonstrate our ability to host events of this scale,” he said.

Moreover, Hoxha noted that NATO allies are still discussing the exact timing of the summit.

“It could take place in 2027 or the following year. In any case, we will be ready,” he said.

Finally, Hoxha revealed that Albania has already established a task force to prepare for the event. The team attended the Ankara summit to gain experience and strengthen preparations.
