TIRANA, July 9 – President Bajram Begaj visited the Presheva Valley in southern Serbia on Thursday, where he met local representatives and residents in Presheva and Bujanoc.
During his meetings with Presheva Mayor Ardita Sinani, Bujanoc Mayor Arbër Pajaziti, Albanian National Council Chairman Enkel Rexhepi and Albanian MP in Serbia’s Parliament Shaip Kamberi, Begaj discussed the main concerns of the Albanian community.
The talks focused on protecting rights, strengthening cooperation among Albanian representatives and supporting projects for young people.
Meanwhile, Begaj called for unity among political leaders in the valley whenever issues affecting the interests of Albanians arise. He said cooperation remains essential for safeguarding their rights.
Speaking at the opening of the 2026 Albanian Book Fair in Presheva, the president highlighted the importance of language, culture and identity. He said Albania supports efforts to address concerns over institutional representation, address deregistration and the use of the Albanian language and national symbols.
Begaj stressed that protecting Albanian language and culture in the Presheva Valley goes beyond national concerns. According to him, it reflects European principles of human rights and cultural diversity.
The president also encouraged young people to view Albanian as a language of knowledge, creativity and professional success. He pledged continued support for cultural initiatives, Albanian-language publications and stronger links among Albanians wherever they live.
