TIRANA, July 10 – The Kanye West concert on 11 July is set to place Tirana among the capitals capable of hosting major international music events.
Tourism, Culture and Sports Minister Blendi Gonxhja said the concert represents more than a live performance. He described it as a strategic test of Albania’s organisational capacity and an opportunity to strengthen Tirana’s position as a destination for large international events.
According to Gonxhja, the value of such events extends well beyond ticket sales. Visitors also spend on hotels, restaurants, transport, entertainment and local attractions, creating wider economic benefits.
Meanwhile, the minister cited recent examples from Los Angeles, Istanbul and Madrid. He noted that major concerts in those cities generated millions in economic activity through tourism and local businesses. He also pointed to Türkiye, where public funding supported a profitable event as part of a broader investment strategy.
Preparations for the concert have already created significant economic activity in Tirana. Around 3,500 workers have taken part in the two-month preparation period. In addition, hotels and short-term accommodation across the capital are fully booked ahead of the event.
Gonxhja said a successful concert would deliver more than social and economic benefits. He stressed that it would strengthen Tirana’s international credibility and encourage organisers to choose Albania for future large-scale events. He also urged the public to view the event beyond political debate.
