TIRANA, July 10 – Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs Ferit Hoxha took part in the Friends of the Western Balkans meeting in Rome, hosted by Italy’s Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani. Participants discussed the region’s European future and the European Union’s enlargement process.
In a post on X, Hoxha described enlargement as one of the European Union’s most successful strategic investments. He said maintaining momentum in the accession process serves both the Western Balkans and the European Union.
According to the minister, Europe faces major geopolitical challenges, making enlargement essential for peace, stability, security and prosperity. He added that the process should remain merit-based, with candidate countries continuing reforms while the European Union recognises and rewards progress.
Meanwhile, Hoxha reaffirmed Albania’s commitment to its European path. He said the government remains focused on meeting all obligations under the accession process.
The minister also reiterated Albania’s goal of concluding accession negotiations by 2027. He said the country’s strategic objective remains full European Union membership before the end of the decade.
Hoxha described the current period as a historic window of opportunity. He added that Albania’s European ambition rests on continued reforms, strong public support and the country’s commitment to becoming part of the European family.
