Tirana, July 11 – Justice Minister Toni Gogu said justice system reforms and the implementation of the National Reform Agenda under the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans are concrete steps toward Albania’s European Union membership.
Gogu said a strong, independent and accountable justice system remains a key pillar of the European integration process.
The minister highlighted several measures aimed at improving the system. These include the unification of judicial statistics, better court infrastructure, stronger protection for journalists and increased efforts against crime.
According to the Ministry of Justice, Albania has aligned justice statistics with European standards set by the European Commission for the Efficiency of Justice (CEPEJ). The ministry said institutions have also signed cooperation agreements to harmonise, implement and publish national justice data.
Meanwhile, authorities have introduced measures to speed up court proceedings. The steps include reducing pending cases and increasing human resources through new judges, legal assistants and support staff.
The ministry also reported progress in justice transparency. Decisions related to the appointments, evaluations and careers of judges and prosecutors are now publicly available.
Gogu said these measures strengthen the rule of law and help bring Albania closer to full European Union membership.
