Gulf News names Gjirokastër among the world’s most spectacular summer destinations

TIRANA, July 13 – Gjirokastër has been included among the world’s 10 most spectacular and unusual destinations to visit this summer, according to a selection published by Gulf News.

The UAE-based media outlet highlighted the historic Albanian city as one of Europe’s hidden gems. It praised Gjirokastër for its cultural heritage, authentic atmosphere and unique travel experiences.

According to Gulf News, more travellers are choosing destinations beyond traditional tourist locations. Visitors increasingly seek untouched nature, cultural heritage and authentic experiences.

The publication described Gjirokastër as a UNESCO World Heritage Site located on the slopes of a hill beneath its historic castle. The city features cobbled streets, Ottoman-style architecture, artisan shops and traditional restaurants.

Meanwhile, Gulf News noted that Albania offers a combination of affordable travel options and authentic experiences compared with neighbouring destinations.

The article said visitors can combine a trip to Gjirokastër with Albania’s Riviera, creating a journey that connects history and culture with beaches and turquoise waters.

The Gulf News list includes destinations from around the world, such as the Faroe Islands in Denmark, the Azores in Portugal, Raja Ampat in Indonesia, the Isle of Skye in Scotland and Hallstatt in Austria. The publication said the list does not represent a ranking but highlights destinations with distinctive natural and cultural values.
