TIRANA, July 14 – Foreign Minister Ferit Hoxha said the 9th Albania–European Union Intergovernmental Conference reflects years of sustained institutional work on the country’s European integration.
In a social media post, Hoxha recalled key milestones in Albania’s accession process. He noted that the country had not opened any negotiation chapters on Oct. 14, 2024. Meanwhile, Albania had opened all 33 chapters by Nov. 17, 2025. Earlier this year, on May 26, 2026, it became the first candidate country to achieve the Interim Benchmark Assessment Report (IBAR) under the revised enlargement methodology.
The minister added that Albania entered the final phase of accession talks on July 14 with the provisional closure of Chapter 25 on Science and Research, Chapter 26 on Education and Culture, and Chapter 30 on External Relations. According to Hoxha, those milestones reflect sustained institutional commitment, political determination and continuous reform efforts.
In addition, Hoxha said the dates represent historic moments rather than entries on a timeline. He stressed that progress becomes visible and measurable when ambition matches results. The foreign minister also said the “wall of enlargement” is changing once again.
