TIRANA, July 15 – Defence Minister Ermal Nufi hosted a courtesy meeting with German Armed Forces Chief of Defence General Carsten Breuer during his official visit to Tirana.
The two officials highlighted the strong relations between Albania and Germany in defence and security. They also praised Germany’s role as a key NATO ally and its contribution to stability in the Western Balkans and Europe.
Meanwhile, Minister Nufi said General Breuer’s visit offers an important opportunity to further strengthen bilateral military cooperation. He added that both countries can expand collaboration in several areas.
The sides discussed regional security, joint NATO commitments and preparations for the upcoming NATO Summit in Tirana. Nufi said the summit will mark a historic moment for Albania and show the Western Balkans’ contribution to Euro-Atlantic security.
In addition, the talks focused on modernising Albania’s defence industry. The defence minister presented the government’s programme to develop domestic production capacities, attract investment and integrate Albania into European defence supply chains. He also expressed interest in increasing the role of German companies in this sector.
The meeting also addressed the strategic importance of Pan-European Transport Corridor VIII, which aims to strengthen regional connectivity and improve NATO military mobility.
