PM Rama: Albania to repeal strategic investments law, review protected areas law

TIRANA, July 15 – Albania will repeal the law on Strategic Investments and review the law on Protected Areas to align it with European Union standards, Prime Minister Edi Rama said.

Rama made the statement during a press conference after the 9th Albania–EU Intergovernmental Conference.

The prime minister said Albania agreed with the European Union to repeal the Strategic Investments Law because it had completed its purpose.

“We need to repeal the law on Strategic Investments because it has fulfilled its mission. We are also working closely with the European Commission to draft a new law,” Rama said.

Meanwhile, the government will not repeal the Protected Areas Law. Instead, authorities will review its provisions and amend parts that do not comply with EU standards.

Rama said the two processes have different objectives. He explained that repeal means the complete cancellation of a law.

According to the prime minister, Albania will adapt the Protected Areas Law until it fully meets European standards.

The changes aim to align Albanian legislation with the European Union acquis as part of the country’s accession negotiations.
