TIRANA, July 15 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Serbia bears the main responsibility for the current deadlock in its dialogue with Kosova because it has not accepted what he described as the new reality.
In an interview with Euronews Serbia, Rama said the term “Kosovo and Metohija” no longer reflects reality. He argued that only the Republic of Kosova exists today. He also noted that 22 of the European Union’s 27 member states have recognised Kosova, showing that most of the bloc has accepted that reality.
Meanwhile, the Albanian prime minister said Kosova Albanians, like the other peoples of the former Yugoslavia, had the right to self-determination. He added that independence must go hand in hand with good cooperation and harmonious relations with minorities. Rama also said Serbs are now a minority in Kosova, while Albanians are no longer a minority in Serbia.
However, Rama declined to comment on Acting Prime Minister Albin Kurti’s refusal to implement parts of the Brussels Agreement, including the establishment of the Association of Serb-majority Municipalities. He said he never discusses Kosova’s internal political issues in a foreign language.
Instead, Rama stressed that Serbia, as the region’s largest country, must confront its own history. He added that he had delivered the same message in Belgrade and argued that accepting the new reality would benefit Serbia.
