TIRANA, July 16 – Albania will gain a new direct air connection with Italy after Wizz Air announced a year-round route between Tirana and Palermo, according to Italian media outlet Italpress.
The airline will launch the first flight on October 27. The route will operate 3 times a week, every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday. Wizz Air will use Airbus A321neo aircraft for the flights.
Meanwhile, the new connection is expected to strengthen links between Albania and Sicily. The two sides share historical, cultural and economic ties.
Wizz Air said the route will support easier travel for the Albanian community living in Sicily. It will also create new opportunities for family visits, cultural exchanges and tourism development.
In addition, the new service will expand Wizz Air’s network from Tirana International Airport. The airline continues to increase its presence in the Albanian market through new regional and European connections.
Gianfranco Battisti, head of Palermo Airport’s management company, said the new route will strengthen economic, tourism and cultural relations between Sicily and Albania.
Wizz Air will further expand its operations in Palermo during 2026 by opening a new base and adding 3 aircraft. The company will also introduce new routes to several European and international destinations.
