EU ambassador Gonzato calls for irreversible justice reform in Albania

TIRANA, July 16 – European Union Ambassador to Albania Silvio Gonzato said the Justice Reform must become irreversible as Albanian justice institutions reviewed the progress of the 2024–2030 Cross-Sectoral Justice Strategy.

The Ministry of Justice organised the discussion with the participation of heads of justice institutions. The EU Delegation in Albania said the monitoring process receives full EU support to ensure successful implementation of the strategy.

Meanwhile, Ambassador Gonzato praised the work of justice institutions and stressed the importance of maintaining their independence, integrity and accountability. He also acknowledged progress under the Justice Reform but highlighted the need for continued efforts.

Gonzato said the ultimate goal remains making the reform irreversible. He added that strong and sustainable institutions provide the only long-term guarantee for justice, stability and public well-being.

The 2024–2030 Cross-Sectoral Justice Strategy aims to strengthen the rule of law, improve the efficiency of the justice system and support Albania’s European integration process.

The European Union continues to support Albanian institutions in implementing reforms focused on strengthening the rule of law and consolidating justice institutions.
