More than 34,000 domestic and international tourists visited the protected areas of Kukës during the first half of 2026, exploring alpine landscapes, mountain trails, biodiversity and natural attractions.
The protected areas offer visitors a unique experience through forests, lakes, natural springs and cultural heritage sites, combining adventure with nature exploration.
According to Lefter Gjana, Director of the Kukës Protected Areas Administration, 34,015 visitors explored these areas from January to the end of June. Among them, 17,210 were Albanian visitors and 16,805 were foreign tourists. In June alone, the number reached 22,925 visitors, marking the highest monthly figure of the year.
The Albanian Alps National Park welcomed 24,055 tourists, including 11,860 domestic and 12,195 foreign visitors. Meanwhile, the Korab-Koritnik Nature Park attracted 9,665 tourists, while the Munella Nature Park recorded 295 visitors.
The most popular routes in the Albanian Alps include the Via Dinarica trail, connecting Valbonë–Çerem–Dobërdol–Sulbicë, the Theth–Valbonë trail and the route leading to the Valbona Waterfall.
Visitors also continue to explore high mountain peaks such as Maja e Ragamit and Maja e Hekurave, which offer spectacular views of the Albanian Alps.
Furthermore, the Korab-Koritnik area attracts tourists with destinations such as Kallabaku Lake, Gjallica Mountain trails, and the waterfalls of Bela and Topojan. Kallabaku Lake remains one of the most visited spots due to its natural beauty, tranquillity and opportunities for exploration.
To improve visitor safety, authorities have marked several hiking trails, including Çerem–Trokuz, Valbonë–Valbona Waterfall, Valbonë–Qafa e Valbonës and Dragobi–Valbonë.
Protected areas in Kukës continue to strengthen their position as major destinations for adventure tourism, offering visitors breathtaking landscapes, fresh mountain air and unforgettable experiences close to nature.
