TIRANA, July 22 – Albania has started the process of inventorying mountain trails to identify existing routes and map new itineraries, with work also underway in the Shkodër region.
Tourism guide Kastriot Faci said the initiative aims to create a complete map of mountain trails across the country. He explained that each city will receive a designated number for its trails, which will later help with their identification and organization.
In Shkodër, the first registered trail is the route marked by the municipality in cooperation with the Tarabosh mountain area. The trail starts from the farm in Oblik and ends in the village of Paçë. Known as the “Youth Trail”, it extends for around 6.2 kilometres and reaches an altitude of 382 metres at Bajrak Peak on Mount Tarabosh.
Meanwhile, Faci noted that the inventory process depends on seasonal and weather conditions, as some areas remain difficult to access. He added that vegetation changes and rainfall can affect trail conditions by causing obstacles such as loose rocks.
The collected data will be included in an information platform and displayed on public signs. Authorities will classify trails according to difficulty levels, from easier routes to challenging mountain paths.
The initiative aims to increase visitor safety, promote rural, adventure tourism, and support the protection of natural areas.
