Local storms cause minor damage in Saranda and Himara

TIRANA, July 22 – Local storms hit several areas of Albania overnight, causing fallen trees and minor material damage, according to reports.

Coastal areas, including Saranda, Himara and Vlora, experienced strong winds and storms during the night, following earlier weather forecasts. In Saranda, several people reportedly suffered injuries after a pine tree fell and damaged vehicles near the stadium area. Three people received medical assistance at the hospital.

One person sustained injuries from tree branches while travelling by motorcycle. Meanwhile, strong winds also affected the city of Vlora on Tuesday evening, creating difficulties in several areas.

Authorities and residents urged caution as citizens and tourists quickly left coastal areas due to the risk posed by falling trees and objects. In the Lungomare area, businesses collected umbrellas and chairs after strong winds disrupted normal activity.

Elsewhere, rainfall, moderate winds and lightning affected the Kukës region, bringing an end to the recent heatwave.
