Foreign tourists pay healthcare service fees online at summer health centers

TIRANA, July 22 – Foreign non-resident tourists have started paying unified healthcare service fees at summer health centers since July 1, according to the Operator of Health Care Services.

Director Jeta Deda said the primary healthcare system has published and displayed the applicable fees at these centers. The charges cover services such as general practitioner visits, specialist consultations, minor surgery, blood and urine tests, blood sugar measurements and electrocardiograms.

She said the average cost of these services is around ALL 650. Meanwhile, visitors cannot pay in cash because the summer health centers use electronic payment systems.

Deda explained that the centers do not have cash desks. Visitors complete payments online through electronic cards, and the money goes directly to the health center’s bank account.

The Ministry of Health is also working on extending the fee system to hospitals. Deda said hospital services have different costs and require a separate approval process.

Several university and regional hospitals have already completed the cost assessment of their services. The goal is to create a unified system for registering, treating, charging and documenting healthcare services provided to foreign citizens.

According to estimates, foreign visitors account for 25-30% of total visits at these summer health centers. The centers will use the collected revenues for their own needs.
