Albanian government approves three expropriation decisions in southern Albania

TIRANA, July 23 – The Albanian government has approved three decisions on the expropriation of private properties for public interest. The projects will support infrastructure and urban development in Vlora and Saranda.

The decisions, proposed by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Energy, provide more than ALL 11.9 million in total compensation for affected property owners. The largest amount concerns the expansion of the road to Ksamil. The project will compensate owners of pasture land with ALL 4.74 million. The state budget will cover the payment through the expropriation fund, while the Albanian Road Authority will cover procedural costs.

Meanwhile, another decision supports the construction of a bridge in Metoq village, Saranda. Saranda Municipality will carry out the expropriation and cover ALL 49,256 in compensation, along with procedural expenses. The third decision concerns the construction of an underground parking facility and a recreational park in Vlora. The Albanian Development Fund will manage the project, while the state budget will provide ALL 7.22 million in compensation for affected land.

The authorities have set a 3-month deadline to complete the expropriation procedures. Property owners must submit the required documents before receiving payments. The implementing institutions will also apply to local Cadastre offices in Vlora and Saranda to register the projects. The Cadastre will suspend transactions on the affected properties until the ownership transfer process is completed.
