Albania registers over 11,500 new businesses in first half of 2026

TIRANA, July 23 – Albania registered 11,567 new businesses during the first 6 months of 2026, marking a 7.5% increase from the same period in 2025, according to the National Business Center.

The institution said registrations increased by 806 entities year-on-year. Sole proprietorships accounted for 8,757 registrations, or 75.7% of the total. Limited liability companies ranked second with 2,775 registrations.

Meanwhile, businesses with 100% foreign capital reached 1,240 registrations. The figure represented a 35.7% increase compared with January–June 2025.

Tirana recorded the largest number of new businesses with 6,039 registrations, or 52.2% of the total. Vlora followed with 1,347 registrations, while Durrës recorded 1,310. In addition, registrations also increased in the northern counties of Lezhë, Shkodër, Dibër and Kukës.

Wholesale and retail trade remained the leading sector for new businesses with 2,771 registrations. Accommodation and food services, professional activities, transport, and information and communication followed. Real estate activities increased by 35.8%, while transport and storage rose by 26.3%.

The National Business Center also reported that 897 licenses and 124 permits were registered during the period. In addition, 2,813 entities were entered into the Register of Beneficial Owners, reflecting a 7.1% increase from the first half of 2025.
