Over 20,000 Applications Qualify for Albania’s 2026 National Agriculture Support Scheme

Albania’s Agency for Agricultural and Rural Development (AZHBR) has qualified 20,636 applications under Measures 5–9 of the 2026 National Agriculture Support Scheme after completing the initial administrative review.

The scheme supports sustainable agriculture, higher production standards and inland fisheries. AZHBR approved 362 applications under Measure 5, which supports biological pest control in greenhouses and plastic tunnels.

Meanwhile, 201 farms qualified under Measure 6, which supports organic farming and farms transitioning to organic production.

The agency also approved 16 applications under Measure 7 for GlobalG.A.P. certification.

In addition, Measure 8 received the highest number of successful applications. A total of 20,042 farmers qualified for area-based payments.

At the same time, 15 applications qualified under Measure 9, which supports fish restocking in inland waters. Next, AZHBR asked applicants under Measures 5, 6, 7 and 9 to submit the required documents within 20 calendar days.

Applicants under Measure 8 already uploaded their documents during the online application process. However, the agency will notify applicants individually if documents are missing. They will then have 10 calendar days to complete their files.

After completing all administrative checks, AZHBR will publish the final list of beneficiaries and the financial support awarded under Measure 8.

The agency also warned that applicants who fail to meet the eligibility criteria or submit the required documents on time will lose their eligibility.

Earlier this month, AZHBR qualified around 21,000 livestock farmers and beekeepers under separate support measures.

The government allocated 5.2 billion lek to the 2026 National Agriculture Support Scheme. The programme includes 12 support measures, with nine direct payment schemes and three investment measures.

Applications opened on May 25 and closed on July 6 after the government extended the deadline.

Overall, farmers and agricultural businesses submitted 42,728 applications nationwide.

As a result, the scheme aims to strengthen Albanian agriculture, support organic production, livestock farming, fisheries and farm investments. It also helps align the sector with European Union standards.
