TIRANA, July 27 – Prime Minister Edi Rama met firefighters and Civil Emergency forces on Monday at the Farka air base. The meeting focused on preparations against the increased wildfire risk during the summer season.
Rama referred to the severe fires in France and Spain, where flames have affected thousands of hectares and forced hundreds of thousands of people to leave their homes. He expressed solidarity with firefighters in both countries. He said fires represent a shared challenge that does not recognize borders.
Meanwhile, Rama said Albania will continue to contribute through the European Civil Protection Mechanism. He also mentioned the support of Canadian firefighters who are training Albanian emergency teams.
The Prime Minister said climate change has turned major wildfires into a recurring threat. He stressed that Albania must strengthen preparation, coordination and prevention efforts.
Rama said Albania now keeps 4 helicopters ready for emergency operations. The country can increase this capacity to 6 helicopters when needed. He added that authorities have completed procedures to purchase 3 firefighting aircraft.
He said the emergency system depends not only on equipment, but also on firefighters who face danger directly. Rama announced further investments in firefighting services and called on citizens to prevent fires caused by negligence or intentional actions.
“A country is not protected by laws and walls. It is protected by people and their hearts,” Rama said, praising firefighters for their commitment.
