Pilur celebrates more than six decades of legendary polyphonic music

TIRANA, July 27 – Pilur hosted the first edition of the Day of the Pilur Group during the weekend, honouring the legendary Albanian polyphonic group that has contributed to national culture for more than six decades.

The event took place at the “Lefter Çipa Word Museum” Centre, bringing together former members, residents, friends and admirers of Labëria’s traditional songs. Performances of the group’s best-known songs accompanied memories from its artistic journey, including concerts and important moments over the years.

Meanwhile, the exhibition featured rare photographs from the archives of the Albanian Telegraphic Agency and the General Directorate of Archives. The images highlighted the group’s participation in National Folklore Festivals and its role in preserving the cultural heritage of Vlora.

ATSH Director General Valbona Zhupa said the archive material helps preserve important memories of Albanian folklore, traditions and costumes from Labëria and Vlora.

Aleksandër Çipa, son of Lefter Çipa, the founder and inspiration of the group, said the Pilur Group represented creativity and artistic achievement during challenging periods.

Milto Gjiçani, a former member, recalled that Lefter Çipa founded the group in 1966 and that its recognition grew after its participation in the National Folklore Festival with the song “Bejkë e bardhë” (Fair Beauty).

The tradition continues through the “Bejkë e Bardhë-Pilur” Folklore Ensemble, which will organise the seventh edition of the “Nights of the Nights of the Fair Beauty” Festival on September 11 and 12.
