15th–16th Century Fountain Discovered in Rromës Village

Archaeologists have discovered the remains of an old fountain with historical value in Rromës village, Selenicë Municipality.

Workers found the structure during the construction of a water storage facility. Local residents informed authorities about the discovery, and specialists from the Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Vlora inspected and documented the site.

The specialists identified important construction elements, including ceramic pipes, drainage channels, and stone walls built with tiles and lime mortar.

Based on the architectural features and the few ceramic fragments found at the site, experts believe the fountain dates back to the 15th–16th centuries, during the early Ottoman period.

The Regional Directorate of Cultural Heritage in Vlora praised the cooperation between local residents and specialists. They said this collaboration helped document and protect an important historical site that reflects the cultural heritage of Rromës village.
