Albania’s Selenicë Municipal Folklore Group represented the country at the 8th Balkan Festival “Opoja Vallëzon” in Bresanë, Kosovo, during the weekend.
The group from Labëria, Vlora, performed on the festival’s opening night and introduced southern Albanian polyphonic singing to the event for the first time.
This traditional art form, recognised as part of Albania’s world cultural heritage, added special value to the festival’s programme.
Moreover, Labëria’s polyphony blended with the music and dances of groups from Poland, Croatia, Türkiye, Bulgaria, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Cyprus, Montenegro, and local ensembles.
During the visit, Dragash Mayor Bexhet Xheladini welcomed Selenicë Mayor Nertil Bellaj in a friendly meeting.
They discussed the importance of cultural heritage on both sides of the Drin River. They also highlighted the need for more cultural exchanges and joint festivals.
According to the participants, such events strengthen connections, promote traditions, and build bridges of cooperation between communities.
