TIRANA, July 28 – Kosova’s acting Foreign Minister Glauk Konjufca called on the Kosova Specialist Chambers in The Hague to deliver a judicial decision, not a political one, regarding the upcoming ruling on former Kosova Liberation Army (KLA) leaders.
The court is scheduled to issue its decision on September 16. Asked about Kosova institutions’ position if the defendants receive convictions, Konjufca said the ruling must reflect justice.
He said Kosova’s people consider the KLA war a just one. Konjufca argued that an alleged criminal campaign would not have received support from the international community, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Germany and France.
Meanwhile, he highlighted the cooperation between NATO officers and KLA representatives during the war. He said NATO officers helped train KLA officers because they believed the force contributed to stopping the crimes committed during Slobodan Milosevic’s rule.
Konjufca said Kosova expects the court to base its decision on justice. He added that people in Kosova would strongly oppose any ruling that followed political considerations rather than legal principles.
