TIRANA, July 30 – More than 3.8 million passengers traveled by air in Albania during the second quarter of 2026, marking a 26.4% increase from the same period last year, according to the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).

INSTAT reported that 33 foreign airlines operated in Albania between April and June, 4 more than a year earlier.

Meanwhile, aircraft recorded 121,684 movements in Albanian airspace. Overflights accounted for 98,468 movements, or 80.9% of the total. Flights arriving at and departing from Tirana International Airport reached 23,216, up from 18,458 in the second quarter of 2025.

Passenger traffic showed the strongest growth. Airlines carried 3,858,055 passengers during the quarter, compared with 3,052,511 a year earlier.

However, air cargo declined during the same period. Air transport handled 704 tons of freight and mail, down 11.9% year-on-year. Imports represented 74.6% of the total volume.

In addition, air imports and exports totaled 556 tons, 4.7% less than in the second quarter of 2025. INSTAT said air imports accounted for just 0.02% of Albania’s total import volume, while passenger transport remained the fastest-growing segment of the aviation sector.
