Former Democratic Party (PD) Secretary for Public Relations Jola Hysa has been appointed as the new Director General of Albania’s National Tourism Agency (AKT).

Hysa replaces Zana Çela in the position. She left the Democratic Party in March this year, ending more than two decades of political involvement with the party.

In the statement announcing her departure from the PD, Hysa expressed concern over the way her role as Secretary for Public Relations had been handled, arguing that the position’s actual responsibilities had been significantly reduced, even though its public image and accountability continued to be used.

She also criticized what she described as the systematic exclusion of competent and credible individuals from representation in municipal councils, as well as the process used to compile the Democratic Party’s closed candidate lists for Durrës County.

According to Hysa, the Democratic Party’s main problem was its lack of genuine internal openness, stressing that important decisions were often learned through the media rather than communicated through the party’s official structures.
