Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sport Endrit Hoxha announced a 32% increase in the sports budget. He said the government is prioritizing elite athletes, sports infrastructure and international competitions.
The increased funding marks a major step for Albanian sport. It will support athletes and improve training conditions.
Moreover, Albania is using new sports facilities to host international events. The country has already welcomed competitions in cycling, padel, taekwondo, wrestling, weightlifting, volleyball and basketball.
Hoxha said sports federations remain independent but continue to receive state funding. The ministry has also allocated €3 million to support the UEFA European Under-17 Championship, which Albania will host in 2027.
In addition, the government is expanding school sports programs. Around 11,000 children now participate in school teams across the country. The ministry plans to introduce more disciplines, including wrestling, taekwondo, gymnastics and athletics.
Meanwhile, Albania is investing in new sports infrastructure. Authorities are preparing four new stadium projects and will start work on the new Sports Palace in January 2027.
Hoxha also announced higher rewards for elite athletes. European champions will receive 6 million ALL, while Balkan champions will receive 1.5 million ALL.
Finally, the ministry will present a new sponsorship law this autumn. The law aims to attract more private investment and strengthen the future of Albanian sport.
