TIRANA, July 31 – The US Senate approved a procedural resolution that allows a group vote on 74 nominations from the American administration, including Eric Wendt’s candidacy for ambassador to Albania, according to the Senate Foreign Relations Committee website.
The resolution passed with 50 votes in favor and 47 against, while three senators abstained. However, the decision does not confirm Wendt as ambassador. It only allows the Senate to proceed with the final vote.
President Donald Trump nominated Wendt on 13 April 2026. Earlier, the candidate presented his priorities before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on 20 May.
Wendt highlighted stronger U.S.-Albania cooperation against corruption and organized crime. He also stressed defence, cyber security and increased American investment as key areas of cooperation.
Meanwhile, the committee approved his nomination on 4 June with 19 votes in favor and 3 against, sending it to the full Senate for consideration.
If confirmed, Wendt will become the first US ambassador to Albania since Yuri Kim left the post in June 2023. The embassy has operated under a chargé d’affaires for more than three years.
The former military officer has more than 34 years of experience in the U.S . Army and NATO missions. His nomination focuses on strengthening security and defence ties between Washington and Tirana.
