TIRANA, July 31 – Prime Minister Edi Rama said Albania aims to equip its Armed Forces with military vehicles and capabilities produced in the country by 2028.
Rama made the statement during a ceremony where the Armed Forces received the first 40 tactical vehicles produced in Albania by Timak Defence under NATO standards.
He said the state-owned company KAYO will lead the development of Albania’s new defense industry. The company has 100% state ownership and coordinates cooperation with international partners, according to Rama.
Meanwhile, the prime minister said Albania wants to produce locally any equipment that it can manufacture at home. He added that foreign companies investing in the defense sector should accept the state as a partner.
Rama said KAYO has already started generating revenue through its partnerships. He added that companies interested in Albania’s defense industry will negotiate through KAYO.
The prime minister said Timak Defence produced the first 40 vehicles with support from international automotive companies. The vehicles will serve the Albanian Armed Forces.
Rama added that the government’s objective is to provide the army with all necessary vehicles and capabilities by 2028. He said the plan includes everything from light vehicles to advanced systems that meet NATO standards.
