TIRANA, July 31 – Ardi Veliu, chief executive officer of Albania’s state-owned defense company KAYO, said the delivery of the first 40 NATO-standard tactical vehicles produced in Albania marks an important step for the country’s defense industry.
The company Timak Defence produced the vehicles, which include 35 light tactical vehicles and 5 dump trucks. The Armed Forces received them during a ceremony attended by Prime Minister Edi Rama and other senior officials.
Veliu said KAYO and Timak established Timak Defence in August 2025 to develop military vehicle production capacities in Albania. He added that the company built its production structure, created professional teams and transferred technology within one year.
Meanwhile, Veliu said the project represents more than the completion of a contract. He described it as a step toward strengthening national production capacities and developing strategic technologies.
He thanked the government, the Ministry of Defense, the Armed Forces, Timak Defence partners and employees who contributed to the project.
Veliu added that KAYO will continue investing in industrial development, technology and strategic partnerships to build a stronger and more competitive Albanian defense industry.
