The Albanian government has decided to temporarily suspend construction work and related activities in tourist areas during the summer season. The measure takes effect immediately and will remain in force until September 15, 2026.
The announcement was made by Tourism Minister Blendi Gonxhja, who said the decision clearly defines which construction activities are suspended, the exemptions to the measure, the areas where it applies, the rules regarding construction permits, and the administrative penalties for violations.
“No ‘bang bang’ during the tourist season. In accordance with Law No. 83/2026 and the Council of Ministers’ decision, construction work and related activities in tourist areas will be temporarily suspended throughout the 2026 tourist season. The suspension takes effect upon the entry into force of this decision and will remain in place until September 15, 2026. The measure aims to ensure the smooth running of the tourist season, protect tourist destinations, and provide a quieter, higher-quality environment for both residents and visitors,” Gonxhja wrote.
According to the minister, the implementation of the decision will be monitored by the responsible institutions, while businesses that fail to comply with the suspension will face the administrative penalties предусмотрված under the law.
The decision specifically outlines:
- The construction works that are suspended;
- The activities exempt from the suspension;
- The tourist areas where the measure applies;
- The rules governing construction permits;
- Administrative sanctions for violations; and
- The institutions responsible for monitoring and enforcing the decision.
The minister also called on all construction companies and developers to comply with the legislation in force and cooperate with the relevant authorities to help ensure a peaceful, safe, and high-quality tourist season.
