Albania and Germany sign three energy agreements worth €114 million

TIRANA, August 3 – Albania and Germany signed three cooperation agreements in the energy and energy efficiency sectors, with a total value of around €90 million in loans and €24 million in grants.

Infrastructure and Energy Minister Enea Karakaçi and German Ambassador to Tirana Karl Bergner signed the agreements. Karakaçi said the projects, supported by the German government and the German Development Bank (KfW), will help modernize Albania’s energy system and improve public services.

The first agreement focuses on energy efficiency in the electricity transmission system. Karakaçi said the project will digitize the entire transmission network. It will also automate processes related to substation connections and energy operations.

Meanwhile, another agreement covers the rehabilitation of the Vau i Dejës hydropower plant. The minister described it as one of Albania’s most important energy facilities. He said the project continues cooperation with Germany and KfW to modernize the plant.

The third agreement supports the renovation of student dormitories at Tirana State University campus. Germany will provide a €24 million grant through KfW for the project. The investment aims to improve living conditions for students and reduce energy consumption.

In addition, Karakaçi thanked the German government and KfW for their continued support. Ambassador Bergner reaffirmed Germany’s commitment to investments that contribute to Albania’s economic development and modernization.
