TIRANA, August 3 – Gjirokastër has launched “Iso mbi Kalldrëm” (Iso on the Cobblestones), a month-long cultural event that fills the city’s historic bazaar with the sounds of Albanian iso-polyphony.
Gjirokastër Mayor Flamur Golemi shared scenes from the lively streets, where performances will take place every evening from August 1 to August 29. He said the event brings together tradition, emotion and the unique spirit of Albania’s intangible cultural heritage.
Meanwhile, the “Nectar of Polyphony” youth ensemble opened the program. Golemi said folk groups from different regions of Albania will perform throughout the month. He invited visitors to experience Gjirokastër through the voices of its traditional iso singing.
In addition, the municipality has prepared a full calendar of cultural events for August. The program includes art exhibitions, folklore evenings, open-air cinema, concerts, electronic music festivals, children’s films, instrumental performances, traditional village activities, the International Short Film Festival and the closing Twinkle Awards 2026.
The program combines culture, tradition, art and entertainment. It also strengthens Gjirokastër’s appeal as a summer destination where visitors can experience history and Albania’s rich cultural heritage.
