TIRANA, August 4- Heavy traffic has continued over the past 24 hours at border crossings in Gjirokastër County. Thousands of citizens and vehicles have entered and left Albania.
Kakavijë remains the county’s busiest border crossing. Over the past 24 hours, officers processed 9,141 travelers. Of these, 5,209 entered Albania, while 3,932 left the country.
The crossing also handled 2,626 vehicles. Some 1,470 entered Albania, while 1,156 left the country.
According to Border Police figures, 1,211 travelers entered Albania for tourism. This figure confirms strong interest in southern Albania, even in August.
Meanwhile, the Tre Urat border crossing also recorded significant traffic. During the same period, officers processed 447 travelers. Some 206 entered Albania, while 241 left.
The crossing also handled 172 vehicles, including 85 entering and 87 leaving Albania.
In addition, 43 travelers entered Albania through Tre Urat for tourism.
Border Police says its officers continue to operate at full capacity to manage the summer-season surge. At the same time, they aim to process travelers and vehicles as quickly as possible at the region’s border crossings.
