TIRANA, August 4-Minister of Tourism, Culture and Sports Blendi Gonxhja says the Albanian government continues to strengthen its support for sport. He described funding for elite athletes as one of the government’s key priorities.
Under the latest normative act, the government has approved an additional 40 million lek fund. The measure aims to strengthen the reward system for athletes who successfully represent Albania in international competitions.
The new support package will also increase funding for non-Olympic sports and Albanian coaches. In addition, athletes will receive higher daily meal allowances.
Moreover, the government will raise rewards for achievements at the Olympic Games and World, European, Mediterranean and Balkan Championships. The package also introduces a more favorable scheme for sports that compete across several disciplines.
Gonxhja said these measures form part of a broader government commitment to developing sport. Meanwhile, the 2026 state budget for sport will increase by 32%, reaching its highest level of financial support in years.
“Sport is not only about success in competitions. It also means investing in young people, promoting Albania, driving economic development, and building national pride,” Minister Blendi Gonxhja said.
