Health Minister Sala: New public model strengthens support services for patients

TIRANA, August 5 – Albania is expanding its public management model for healthcare support services, Health Minister Evis Sala said after inspecting the facilities of the Integrated Sterilisation Services Operator (OSHIS).

Meanwhile, OSHIS has already taken over the integrated sterilisation service. It will also manage the National Basic Medical Check-Up Programme and dialysis services under recent government decisions. The operator will provide nationwide support services under a single public management system.

Sala said the expanded role marks an important step toward building stronger public healthcare capacities. She added that the model will improve standardisation, quality control, efficiency and patient safety. She also said the government aims to guarantee equal service standards across the country.

In addition, Sala described sterilisation as one of the most critical elements of patient safety. She said the new centre uses modern infrastructure and advanced technology. She noted that the system ensures standardised procedures, full quality control and complete traceability throughout every stage of the sterilisation process. According to the minister, the investment will improve hospital care, reduce infection risks and strengthen public confidence in the healthcare system.

The new management model aims to ensure uninterrupted sterilisation services in all public hospitals. It also seeks to expand capacity, modernise equipment, strengthen quality monitoring and improve the traceability of every sterilised instrument. Finally, the Health Ministry says the reform supports safer care and aligns public healthcare management with European standards.
