TIRANA, August 5 – Egnatia lost 3-1 to Irish side Shamrock Rovers in the first match of the third qualifying round of the UEFA Europa League. The result leaves the qualification battle open ahead of the return leg.
The hosts took the lead in the 29th minute when Burke converted a penalty. However, Egnatia responded before halftime and equalised in the 40th minute. Jaime missed from the penalty spot but scored after a mistake by the home goalkeeper, sending the teams into the break level at 1-1.
Shamrock Rovers regained control in the second half and scored twice within two minutes. Lopes found the net in the 55th minute, while Greene added another goal in the 57th minute to secure the 3-1 victory.
Meanwhile, the return match will take place on August 11 at 21:00. Egnatia will look to overturn the deficit in front of its home supporters and continue its European campaign.
